a new year
It's the first day of 2017. People are making New Year Resolutions. I haven't bothered. A week or so ago I wrote that I would start posting a quote a day for eight days as a way to record the last remaining days of 2016. Of the eight (predicted) posts, only three have been written. I did not purposefully ignore the promise I'd made to myself. I was steered away by daily doings; amongst it a minor illness that claimed approximately four of those days.
It happens sort of like this: we make resolutions, plans, promises. And then things happen; we move, we marry, we fall ill - we are steered away by daily doings. And this is the way of life. It happens - and I think our job is to let it happen. Of course a certain level of involvement and effort is to be expected, but we must also expect that things will not always happen as we plan. Things happen. And today is the first day of 2017 - bismillah.
